On Nov. 1st, 2024, China’s Urban MICE Industry Cooperation Conference & Releaseof MICEIndustry Competitiveness Indexesin Chinese Cities were held in Chengdu. According to the Report on the MICEIndustry Competitiveness Indexes in Chinese Cities 2023, Chengdu ranked fifth overall and fourth in terms of professional exhibition competitiveness index.
The competitiveness index reflects the development and potential of MICEs in Chinese cities. In 2023, numerous internationally renowned exhibitions, such as the 108th National Sugar and Wine Fair and the 19th Western China International Fair, were held in Chengdu, not only showcasingthe city’s industrial characteristics, but also driving its development.
The competitiveness of MICE industry in Chengdu comprises three aspects: balanced development of exhibitions and conferences, integration of industrial characteristics, as well as internationalization and branding. Responding to the shift of MICE economy from rapid growthto high-quality development, the industry aims at diversified development such as “MICE+” and “+MICE”.
A person in charge of Chengdu Expo Bureau stated that,as the pioneer of “exhibition-city integration” in China, the city fully leveraged the role of MICEs in connecting production and consumption, supply and demand, as well as international and domestic markets, established a coordination mechanism between the industry and with relevant municipal departments, districts (cities) and counties, thus promoting the integration, symbiosis and mutual empowerment of exhibitions and the city.
